Recycling bicycles can never replace your good old bike shop. They are a valuable source to obtain parts, advice, repairs and specialized bicycles. There are many bikes stores that work hand in hand with local community schemes providing secondhand parts, bicycles, courses and advice. Many people take up cycling and end up upgrading to a more specialised bike to suit their needs. Bike shops provide this service, whereas recycling groups don't. If you are a bike shop owner or know of one that actively partakes in assisting local groups via recycling their goods or assists local charities, let me know and I am happy to list the details here.
